I've owned the splitter for 2 years, this is the third season for splitting. Not much, maybe 10 cords a year.

The detent on the splitter doesn't return the valve to the neutral position and wears on the engine. I just replaced the couplings and figured maybe the increase in pressure may have had something to do with the couplings breaking. Is there a way to adjust the detent pressure on my splitter? I'm supplying a link for those looking for details regarding the splitter.

There may be some impacted grease in the detent mechanism. With the splitter shut off and the control valve in neutral disconnect the handle from the spool. Mark the side of the spool that is facing up, rotate the spool several times ending with the marked side down. Reconnect the handle and test operation. If the operation does not improve place the valve in retract position rotate the spool again.
Here is a link for further info for the type of valve used on the Troy-bilt.

P.S. splitter valves and pumps are generic and fit the majority of machines. The factory prices listed 2-3 times normal.

I did try that fix, spinning the spool. No change.

Is it possible, from the blown up pictures of the entire valve from the Energy link, that I can adjust the pressure to the detent using the "adjustment screw" located on the side of the valve or does that adjust some other pressure? For the blown up pictures, go to the energy link above and then click parts list and instructions. The adjustment screw is parts 11-15, next to the "out" outlet.

The adjustment screw is for the pressure relief setting. On the opening page if you look item #5 the spool you will see two dots one in the center groove and one near the rear, these are for oil passages that operate the detent if one got plugged the detent will fail. They are mentioned line 18 of seal replacement and line#5 detent replacement.
