Alrighty, well myself in Sydney Australia, have never seen a Tree company of any kind, advertise on TV or even on the radio.

I was wondering have any of you guys done it or considered it? If so any pro's and con's? and if you've looked at it but would rather not then why?

Also any prices for the blokes that have done it would be appreciated as I know that this form of advertising isn't cheap.

I was unsure where to post this so I thought here was a good place. Sorry if i'm not clear... New years last night and sore as' as well as tired :p

P.S Happy New Years to all of Arborist Site's members, mods n' ya can't forget the Admins :D

One guy nearby did alot of advertising on radio,he's since gone bust. i cant see it being that productive in the short term.

The biggest tree co residentual in melbourne do alot of radio

Only one of the larger full service companies does it. They use the same spot seasonally every year.

I talked to one who did ssome TV weather "sponsor" spots. They felt they got the short end of the stick.

A friend of mine who owns a computer store has advertised on radio. He told me it cost him around $250 for 5 or 6 short messages during talk radio. I would rather use advertising that lingers around for a while.

We advertise on the community cable in our hometown, they have a channel that rolls stationary style adds. I have also thought about producing a commercial, there are a few small companies in other trades that do so every year and swear bye it. I Have some education in marketing, and I do believe that the television is one of the most effective tools in running a marketing campaign were your goal is "branding". The question is how much will it increase sales, and how much of an increase in business volume can your company handle. If your crew or crews can only handle a small increase in business volume then there are far more cost effective ways to market.

This past summer I saw a commercial by one this area's bigger companies. I truly felt embarassed for any the guys working there. Full-on cheesyness. Luckily for them it was shown about 5:30am.

Another local company had a billboard for awhile - prime spot along the Interstate coming into downtown. From what I heard, however, the return was pretty poor. I think that company got more notice when one of their spray trucks got plastered by a slow-moving train. He had stopped on the tracks waiting for a red light.

That depends on ...

... "that's right, phone now with your credit card and also receive a set of plug spanners, watch as they easily remove the most stubbord siezed spark plugs, you can even undo the caps on a Husky saw ... and yes, your wife can use them too (instructions not included) plus you'll also receive this bonus gift pack of a screw driver and bottle opener. Phone now. This incredible offer cannot last! Phone 0800DREMELtrees":hmm3grin2orange:

Ask yourself this question.

How many times have you written down a phone number off the radio?

That's also why I use my name in business - "M. D. Vaden" - easy to remember.

Got the idea from trucks I saw on the road and companies like "J. C. Penny"

A few repetitions is all that's needed.

I found one very good option for radio advertising. Just learned about it a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it's working well for several companies using it - small companies.

But I can't mention what it is, and why I know it's so good. That's in case a few landscapers or arborists in this area are reading this.

I think it's within their scope of awareness, but if I comment on why it's so good, and name it exactly, I may loose the opportunity to get the first and best use out of the resource.

certified arborists'

One of the orginazations that I belong to is advertising on the radio to promote certified individuals and companies. We pay a fee and the radio ad directs listeners to a website where they can find certified companies in their area.

Marketing is in itself is a bit of a black art.If you start advertising you have to decern who you are marketing too.Is it the domestic market or are you targeting commercial, body corperates and government. What gives you more bang for your dollar in terms of how many people are going to see your advertising. What ever you do it does not happen overnight and it takes time to establish your market presence and for you to be the first in mind when someone needs aborist work done.Wether it be print, radio,TV or web based make sure that you do your homework so that you cover the most amount of people for a resonable outlay.P.S. dont belive everything the sales reps tell you, at times their figures can be a little inflated and most times you have to try a few thing before you get the right medium.John youre in sydney so i would think that TV may be bloody expensive but ask anyway you may be supprised. A district paper or radio station in the areas that you mainly work in may be an option.Set a budget and keep to it remember you are still trying to find the right medium mix.

One time on some kind of promotion , cant remember exactly what it was but it wasn't just an advertisement. I donated money for something and got recognition for it and a free commercial so to speak. Cant remember if for sure but i think i got a few calls from it.
