DIY network's show Yard Crashers was landscaping with a dead tree.
Its a concept I have never thought of. Anybody ever do this before?
They had a tree company come by with a dead almost hollowed out tree cut up in pieces even had the root ball still attached.
The landscaping guy cut them up and in couple more pieces (with what looked like an echo 330T) and laid them around the yard.
Not so appealing to me but to each their own.

Maybe a new market for some tree companies.

Hmmm, that sounds very interesting. Not sure it would be my thing but hey I'm sure some people would like it. I have actually bucked up a 30" DBH cherry tree for a guy so he could use the pieces for "lawn furniture, fun fixtures for the kids to play on or even supports for a buffet table" :msp_rolleyes: Haha, can you imagine: a couple giant cherry logs, some old doors/plywood scraps and a tablecloth and voilà! you have a buffet table . I even cut the stump nice and level at just above waist height so it could be a little stand for one of those table top grills or some such nonsense. You can tell I am not a fan but hey, what the customer wants the customer gets.

When I first saw the topic I started thinking about areas I have been in where it seemed to be the 'fad' in the neighborhood to have a large stately tree die right in your front yard and leave it there until it was an unbelievable dangerous hazard. Then after that, have a tree company come and remove only the branches so they could get the full enjoyment of having a 15' big ugly spar rot and crumble in their front yard.

What is the deal with the whole "totem pole in progress" look? Do people just get soft and sentimental during the removal and beg you to leave the trunk standing at a specific height? Never been in this situation but after seeing so many gigantic lawn ornaments, I am really curious. If my neighbor did that I would ask him "so, when are they coming to do the rest?"
