It appears that she was holding the chainsaw backward from the camera during the shot and no one noticed it at the time (or deemed it not important). When the film was being edited it was decided to use the shot, and someone felt that a chainsaw bar should be visible so viewers could better see what she was holding....and the bar was added digitally in post production.

That's my take on it anyways.

Actually, that might be closer than you think. I thought I read one of the ads for her new flick where she is going after a guys jewels with a chainsaw. That's probably a promo picture.

But why does a superhero need a chainsaw? She's strong enough to rip 'em off with her bare hands. Is it for the shock factor? I haven't seen the movie yet... Maybe in context it makes more sense.

The chainsaw was part of the boyfriend being trusted with her secret. The ultimatum was tell her secret and get a chainsaw up your @ss. In the movie the bar was definitely on the right end of the saw.
