I ran into this over on google groups alt.home.repair forum. I have no comment other than WHAT!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a McCulloch Timber Bear Chain Saw model 60013414 for about 10
years or so and while letting it idle so I can gather some wood the
saw stopped and has not started since. Checked the spark plug and it
fires so I am assuming it's a gas related problem?? This chainsaw
requires a fuel/oil mixture although not sure what the ratio is so I
have been using 32:1 when I could and sometimes ran it with straight
gas (no oil) and never had a problem until now.

What would be the steps in repairing this saw? Any help would be
appreciated. I hope I have not killed this saw since it has been
running beautifully for the longest time.

At least he realized straight gas has no oil in it!

"steps in repairing this saw"

Procede directly to rubbish can, lift lid & drop saw.

i think the problem with this saw attatches at the handle..

the steps to repair would be "insert pistol in mouth, pull trigger..."

I have talked to Gypo in depth on this subject. From what I have leaned out of this, is that if you use a 12:1 ratio for the next 5 tank-fulls this should clear up the problem.

I can't help but wonder what the responses were over at that other forum....

Seriously, back before I knew anything about 2-strokes I remember running some Marvel Mystery oil at 16:1 in my IDC weedeater when I couldn't find 2-stroke stuff. Not an acceptable substitute, but it didn't kill the engine. Lasted for many years after that, still ran when I tossed it, just vibrated too much at the end.

Now, I'm older and more educated. When I wreck my equipment, I'm going to do it in style.:D

You obviously missed the forum rules.

You can't make a post like that without telling the story to go along with it. :D
