i do not have a lot of experience cutting trees ,but i gave a very big tree not even sure what kind it is,i cant wrap my arms around it and i am 6ft tall, the problem is it has a lot of limbs that broke in the ice storm last yr and they hung up in a tree next to it and it looks like to me there is a lot of presser on the one holding the limbs i will post some pics so you can see it what i would like to know is how do i cut it down and let the limbs fall where they may or cut the other tree and let the limbs fall and try to get out of the way I'm pretty sure the one with all the pressure is going to barber-chair and i don't want to kill my self any suggestions would be great http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z237/kentucktslavemaster-inc/?action=view&current=Picture423.jpg .,,,,http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/...?action=view&current=Picture424.jpg........if you need better pics i will do what i can

If you can't drag it down with equipment, I suggest that you call in a pro. Be especially careful of the broken and damaged limbs in the crown. You can not believe the energy that a 3" oak limb carries when it falls 10-20ft, it is enough to kill you even with a hardhat on (it will break your neck).

That one looks as though it is just waiting to clobber somebody.

i dont have any equipment as of yet and yes it is just waiting to fall on some one i am thinking about just gutting the tree i want down and clearing a 10 ft path around it cut it from the left side and running like hell

My biggest worry would be the widow makes up there. If I had to be the one taking that down I would start by using a throw line to get a good rope around some of the branches and would use my truck to pull them down.

This looks like a recipe for a trip to the hospital or morgue though, there are so many things that can go wrong.

Any tree can decide to misbehave, the bigger they are the more attitude they can show. Big trees can be just plain mean. There is something awesome about feeling the ground shake when they hit, it always reminds me that we are talking about weight and forces that would crush me like a bug (complete with squeezing my guts out).

If you really must do it, go slow and take your time to think through each and every cut. Keep a spotter on hand who can call 911 (seriously), I don't use the saw at all, even for bucking without someone nearby that can call EMS.

Good advice gwiley !!! Good decision kentuckyblue!!!
A good rule of thumb; If you need to ask how to do a job safely, you need to pay someone else to do it.

You can pick some good tips by hiring out the work, too!!! Post some pix of the work.

That other post was apparently "pulled". Cut him some slack, everyone has a bad day.

I pulled my post off because telling you to go Darwin yourself because you refer to yourself as "slavemaster" makes you an idiot is irrelevant to the discussion of forestry and logging.

Oh, now its posted. oops.

my name on here is kentuckyblue and what i call my self any other place is my own business and if you don't like it don't look thats all i can tell ya if you have a problem with it just say hey why dont you change that and i would have but if you talk to me like a smart ass thats what you will get in return

it was a nice tree but the ice did a job on it and there is a ton of fire wood in that tree that one tree can make me ready for next year:greenchainsaw:

Kty Blu ; From your pics you need to call a pro ... .......The reason why is you forgot the one or 2 pics that a timber faller would need to see to make something of a decision ... .... That is , the ground at and in the area of the tree ........ If it,s good ground so you can have some good run trails .. I would walk in and fall the mess . No problem .. stuff falls out of trees all the time .. can,t live life bein scared .... .. But I would clean up around the area .first . and you will need prolly at least 25 feet to run for your life ..... Nothing worse than a guy getting hurt or killed because he almost got in the clear ....Walk in for your job , run out for your life ....... You may not have a big enough saw and it may not be sharp enough or have a long enough bar to do the job right , so calling a climber or bucket truck is your safest bet ...

it is very thick a lot of ground clutter i.e vines as big as my leg ,stumps, bushes and the such, not to mention its on a hill i can'nt afford a pro to be honest so ill look at it and see what me and my buddies can come up with thinking i can rig the dead stuff and pull it down like someone here suggested ,and i do have that one friend that's crazy as a fruit bat and already said ''ill put it on the ground son'' so that is how i will do it more than likely just thought id ask on here and get some ideas
