Has anyone noticed the trees in the northeast with leaves growing out.3 weeks ago I saw a bunch on thorn-less locust with new leaves growing from them.I the last week or two of tree work ,we have also noticed extra large buds the the red and silver maples.I assume that all of this is because of the warm weather that we have been having.Does anyone know if this weather will screw up the tree's growing cycle or affect the trees in any other way??

Have noticed bigger buds. Havent saw any leaves out yet though. That would be something else, leaves popping in January. I do think this will have an effect on the trees, not sure exactly the effect, but I imagine heavier/larger foliage. If this is the case, we may see an increase of trees splitting pre-fall.

We still dont have a frozen ground. Been waiting for 3 months to do a big job for this house on a lake. The ground is like soup. Freeze up already!

When I saw around a dozen locust with leaves, I had to turn around and look again.I thought i was seeing things , but there they were, new green leaves. They only lasted a couple of weeks but they were there.

The swelling of the maple buds may just be Red and Silver maples preparing for blooming. Here near DC the silver maples often bloom in February.

I took a couple of pics last week of a cherry in full bloom! The magnolia near it looked like it was going to pop also. I am not sure of the long term affects this weather will have.

Nothing new, imo. I remember 1999, day before christmas in Newport, Ky and all the chest tall crabapples they had planted were in full bloom.

I have been noticing bigger buds around here as I said before. This is ODD though!! This tree is in Lynn, MA, 20 minutes NorthEast of Boston. It is in a row of same size Cherries on a busy street 2 blocks in from the ocean. Homes on both sides and Large Norway Maples, Red Oaks, White Ash etc etc etc line the rest of the street.

Check out this tree in FULL BLOOM.....this cant be good.

*Pics were taken at night so not the best shots*

same here in CT.

Unbelievable.at least i have gotten a few big tree jobs.i'm used to doing only mechanic work and metal fab this time of year.snowmobile isn't happy though.

Some friends of mine booked a trip a few weeks back, backcountry only, no snow on the trails! In northern Maine

The sky is falling, and I'm going to tell the king!

This warm weather has me a bit worried about the maple syrup production. A few producers around here have started tapping because they are not sure if it's going to get cold later on in the winter.

(Sap runs best on still sunny days above freezing after nights that have dropped below freezing.)
