Update on Stihl 041AV (trade)

I found out some further details on the 041AV which I have offered to trade (see my post from yesterday regarding specifics). I ran a compression test today and it came out at 165 p.s.i. There was no spark, so I'd suspect points and condenser, but from the way it looks I'd say there's a good shortblock assembly in this saw yet. I'd say the main problem is that the central outer housing has broken mounting tabs where the fuel tank and the rear hanle bolt on.

Have you pulled the muffler on that saw to see the piston? If so, how did that look? Also, what are you looking in trade?

Hey Curt, I did not pull the muffler to check out the piston. I was pretty surprised to find it had such good compression, so I didn't take it further. Right now, I'm working on a deal with another ArboristSite member on a trade, but if the two of us don't come to agreement, I'll keep you next in mind. I mentioned the saws I would trade for in another post in this forum "To trade: 041AV Stihl", or something worded closely to that. What it generally amounts to is a McCulloch over 3+ cubic inches, with specific models mentioned in the other list. Thanks for your interest.
