Im going to get a new saw but I havent made my mind up, a new 361 or 440.
I will be sending it in to NWS to get work down on it but I dont know what im going to get. I cut fire wood alot and I like alot of power, I ran a brand new 440 last night (less then a tank though it) I thought it wasnt a fast as I liked my 310 was the same speed. I think it needs to be broke in and I know my 310 has had some port work to it and also timming advanced, but I just wanted you guys to shoot some ideas.

I'll P. M. you a phone number the shop is in Mio.
they sell Jonsered, Dolmar,Efco, and Echos.
Tell them Mike from Barton City refered you.

The 440 is an old design that I understand has some limitations to prove it (vibration levels, not-to god air filtration and two-channel engine design are some).

I wouldn't buy a new one now, until we know more about the 441.
If I needed a 70 cc saw right now, I would take the Husky 372xp or 2171 Jred.

Everyone needs a 361 anyway, so I suggest that you start with that one. :biggrinbounce2:

I have no complaints about my 361. It has plenty of power to pull a 20" bar through hardwood. It cuts just a hair faster than a 310 but much much smoother.

Is the 361 just an alsome saw or what????
It has a totally different engine design compared to trad. Stihls, that act more like the Husky xp saws, with fast accelleration, and it has a wide useful power band.
Combined with very good vibe dampening, good air filtration system, inboard cluch and light weight, that makes a very nice package. :rockn:

I am a big fan of the 44. they have proven themselves over and over again, they have been one of the most popular forestry saws in these parts. I have 2 and love them both. It all depends how big your cutting.

Husky

Don't forget to check out the new Husky 362xp.(new to the U.S.)It's been out at least since 2001.I have one and love it.Well balanced with 20" bar.4.6 hp.weight without bar 13.0.13500 RPM.Do a muffler mod and you should pick up .8 more HP.I'll be doing the mod next week.

What size wood were you cutting with the 440? In smaller wood, I have a 45 cc saw that will keep up with a 60 cc saw. What I'm saying is that, if you are just cutting 14" wood, you won't see any improvement with a larger displacement saw. Just run what you've got.

Old design or not, the 044 or 440 is a smooth running saw. You can show me better vibration figures on paper, but I guarantee it is not noticeable in your hands. Old design or not, the 440 has it all over the 361, or any 60 cc saw, in bigger wood.

I'm not taking anything away from the 372 or 2171...both great saws IMO.

It has been out from about 1997, except that it was discontiued in the US and some other places a few years ago, and now is reintroduced.

The new version has the large Husky bar mount, while the earlier saws had the small one.

It has excactly the same max power output and torque as the European MS361, and weights more than a pound more.

2171=$650.00 wilth a 20" bar and chain around here. The Dolmar 7900 can be had around that price as well. Husky price? Nothing local got to use Bailey's. Stihl price? Do not seem to get 70cc at that price. The 2171 is a very nice saw. 13.4 lbs. 13,500 mnl rpm and it is red and black. Good luck deciding, there are a few good saws in that range.

Have fun picking a saw out. Ask a question around here and you shall receive many awnsers. "gotta love it"
Just keep in mind Sthil just came out with one new saw copying the turbo air filter cleaning system. Proving that is better then none at all. clean air always makes a engine last longer.

The 440 is a heck of a good saw. I wish I still had one. But if it came down to buying a new 361 or a used 440, I would take the 361. thats unless you know the owner of the 440 and are certain its in A-1 shape.
MY 440 would stomp my 390 to a very large degree. it should really smoke a 310.

I couldn't agree more...

If you're buying a used 361, also be real careful. The piston cylinder set will set you back close to $290 if you buy a dud.
