Using Dormant oil to control Gypsy moths

Could you use dormant oil to control overwintering gypsy moth eggs. Thanks

They are fairly well protected, within the egg sack, but also hidden under bark, and in high spots. I suspect it would reduce populations, but not provide significant control.
