OK, I have a ~40" DBH pecan that needs to go. They say lightning never hits twice, but they lied and the tree is between 60% and 100% toast. Probably 100%.

I have saws, rope/saddle, vertex helmet, and some other stuff but just enough stupidity at age 45 to get killed.

Are there any Virginia tidewater climbers who might be able to help/teach/fish with me? I would be more than happy to take someone out fishing for tuna (or whatever's biting) in exchange, or to pay a reasonable amount for the help. I've climbed, but never with anyone who knew what they were doing; it's kind of insulated over here and what little I know I have learned from books, DVDs, internet, etc

I'm on the Eastern Shore so it incurs a toll over the CBBT. Come on over, the fishing is good, just PM me.

I am in Springfield, which I guess is about 2.5 hours from you. I might be able to help you out but will have to clear it with the wife. PM me if you don't get a more convenient bite.

Thanks for the replies and apologies for not getting back sooner.

The tree in question is probably too dangerous to climb now. The large limb that was killed by lightning 2 years ago recently blew down and I couldn't believe it when I saw that the wood was already kind of punky. Pecan rots a lot faster than I had realized.

I guess I'm going to just have to let nature take its course with this one now, unfortunately.

Thanks,

Jeff
