Hello, I'm Tom and kinda new here. I'm actively looking for a used sawmill to try and maybe get more for my money than buying new. My friend just bought a house and the guy who sold it to him is also selling a 2005 lumber mate 2000. I know it has an engine upgrade and some blades but that's about it. He wants $5000 which seems pretty steep to me. I'd be grateful for any thoughts. It's located in northwest Indiana.

All I will comment on is, the 2000 is still one of, if not the BEST manual of it's size, ever made!

IF "I" ever see a good deal on a used one, I'm going to buy it and put it right next to the one that I already have! lol

I've only ever heard good things about them but that's quite an endorsement! If he was asking more like 3-4000 range I'd be all over it. I'm hesitant at 5k with it being ten years old.I think he paid around 6k. It IS close to me and I don't see many for sale. Hemming and hawing lol

It's NOT like a car, 10 yrs old doesn't mean much. It's the shape it's in that counts, and if it hasn't been beat on, it will be a reliable mill that will last a long long time! Sounds like you don't have to go too far to get it too!

Mine just keeps on, keeping on,

The sooner you get one, the sooner you can be milling logs too...
