What would be a fair price for an 026 (with Stihl carry case) in very good condition? It has an 18" bar and appears not to have been used much at all.

Depending on age, condition and hours of use on it, $250.00 to $350.00 which includes the case which is probably around $35.00 new.

Thanks, Lobo. I may have the chance to get a lightly-used 2 year old 026 for about $250. If it has a problem, I can return it. It's not my intent to start a "Husky vs. Stihl" conversation, but I'm thinking I might be better off getting that one instead of a new Husky 353 for $220. Any "objective" thoughts on that?

The 026 is a bit lighter and a bit more powerful saw than the 353. Although both good units, the 026 is well known for its reliability and durability. Sometimes your best saw however is the one you will get the best dealer support from, as you will be keeping a good saw for many years.

a new 353 for $220. That is a steal (not a stihl). The Husky anti-vibe is nice. Can't say that I've used a newer Stihl with anti-vibe, so I don't know how their current saws compare. The new Husky would have a warranty, so that is one bonus.

Service is always a factor unless you can take care of that yourself.

That was a typo on my part, Blowdown. I meant $320. I've had this headache too long today, I guess.

Bigtime bummer. I'm craving a smaller stihl after running the neighbors 024 once. it wouldnt idle, but I was quite impressed by the power it did have, nice little machine.

that's what you get for wasting time responding to all of us jokers.

Don't feel bad, I just lost out on a killer deal on a Makita router.

A better deal will come along sooner or later. I jsut got outbid on a set of 3 field jackets yesterday, and the buyer wouldnt even do anything, so I got a second chance at getting 3 jackets for less than the price of one new one.

026,in good condition for that money.. good..
adjustable carb an such carries a value in itself..find another one.. good luck..
i literally would not take 500 for mine that dan modified for me.. would not trade it for a new saw.. thisun fits my hands an can outwork me..what more can u ask of a saw..

Was it that it would not adjust to idle or you didn't try to tune it to idle? If it won't tune to idle tell him to get the carb rebuilt. A good running saw is so much nicer to use.

I got mine for the cost of a bar, chain and rim sprocket. It was abandoned at the shop by an idiot that didn't want to pay the teardown fee on it. The internals on this unit look like new and it has the adjustable oiler and carb. I ported the muff and opened up the intake, that really woke this little saw up.

It is really too bad that he sold it to someone else at that cheap price, because as Tony previously posted they are one heck of a saw. Tony if it makes you feel better I can still put in a 6-8 hour cutting day but the 026 is just warmed up and raring to go by that time.

I really don't think I would last that long with a heavier saw.

I think his air filter was clogged with crap, and there was something wrong with the master control lever, not sure what, but since it wasnt my saw, I wasnt gonna try to fix it and risk accidentally making it worse.

Stihl cheap

Oldsaw look at the bright side. If that saw runs like crap maybe he'll sell it to you cheap :blob2:

I kinda doubt it. he wants to keep it for a few more years. besides, I'd rathe have the newer 026 instead.
