Vermeer bc1400xl fuel filter

Fellow arborist, I just got a used vermeer bc1400xl and figured I should change the fuel filter on it. So, I went to the closest vermeer store and bought one. It wasn't incased in plastic, it was just sitting in the box. Is it good to use or will in have contaminats in it?

Chimna just tosses filters in boxes now days---- no plastic wrap!
