Help.

What are the chances of finding a new chain for my David Bradley saw? I measured the pitch at .500" give or take a .001". The driver gauge measures .068" +/-.

The chain that I have is stamped 'OREGON 40' on the cutters and there is a '10' stamped on the drive links. The chain looks good, perhaps unused except it is rusted SOLID in several sections. I have been trying to restore flexibility, a process that I am certain would allow a couple of celebratory cuts but it will never be as good as new.

Looking through Baileys catalog I see a lot of different chains offered but no .500" pitch. Is this really a .404" chain?

Sooooooooo.....what have I got?

:bang:

Thanks!

.404 and 1/2"(.500) are two different animals.
There is still alot of 1/2 inch chain out there, I see it up on ebay all of the time (mostly chipper chain but its cheap). If you want 1/2 chisel it will cost you a few $ but its still around. 1/2" chisel is still the favorite of most of the bike saw guys. Just be glad it isn't 5/8" chain. Oh yea, you won't find it at the local shop, they stopped making it about 30 or 40 years ago.

Yup, it's 1/2" , .063 gauge, chipper probably. :) :jawdrop:

Thanks guys. Good to know that 1/2" is still around. I'll be playing with this saw throughout the summer and I'll see how far I get. Of course I could easily be distracted by something NEW too! :chainsawguy:

LOL! Have fun, I'm still semi-tinkering with my super 44 A. It vibrates so bad I can hardly stand it, and it weighs so much that after I start it and run it through a log, my 460 feels like a feather. That super 44 has to weigh at least 35-37 lbs with 22" bar and chain. Makes you appreciate the old guys that had to run them back when. :rockn: :)

Btw

BTW, did you by pass the govenor yet? I'm going to on my super 44 A to see what she'll do.:chainsawguy: :hmm3grin2orange: :biggrinbounce2:
