Why are the bars pointed upward on a lot of old vintage saws I see?

I am presuming that back in the day that they were not too concerned with kickback. I believe they refer to the upturned tip as a "hog nose" bar. Kind of hard to flip them for even wear also.:popcorn:

Just a guess, Big and slow chain. If you look the dogs are mostly
on the lower side of the bar, so I think the bar is angled up so you
can make sure and get the dogs to the log and not pull on you and
let it pull on the saw. Like I said just a guess
