I'm looking to buy a walk behind stump grinder. Any suggestions on a good sturdy brand? Husqvarna makes a 13 horse, so does Bluebird, but I can't find one at any dealers. They all say they can order 'em so I can't really see if they work well, if at all. Any insight on this would be great. If all the smaller brands are junk, let me know that too-I'll keep my money. Thanks

I own a Rayco RG13II, it works well for me. I have owned it for two years now. I purchased it new from the factory, (there are no dealers up here or rentals). I am pleased with what I purchased. I have ground a couple hundred stumps with it from giant ones to little ones. A walk behind shines in hard to get to areas. That's where you will make your money. I am the only one in my area that has a walk behind. The only real drawback is that they wear you out real well by the end of the day. You literally are wrestling with it to grind a stump. Just keep the teeth real sharp.

Agreed about the small stumps. I use a Praxis walk behind and it works great on small stumps and in tight areas or those with little axis. Personally, I would buy something other than Praxis. They have far too many teeth on their grinder wheel. It would seem to perform better with less teeth, allowing the grinder wheel to maintain a higher rpm level.

I just wish you could replace teeth on the praxis instead of the whole wheel. Do what NY said and demo one or two before deciding. I ran the dosko, and was impressed. At any rate, you're gonna have some big arms if you use a walk behind enough times. :)

New stump-grinder attachments are made for the old Gravely walk-behind tractors. I don't personally have one, but have been told they work well. The grinder attachment is gear-driven, from PTO.

Do you know where I can get this attachment you speak of. I have 2 Gravely commercial 12 tractors and have been thinking of building a grinder. Ia you know that would be great.

i found a dosko that was weathered. i took it all down to the frame and made it custom to how i wanted it. sandblasted the frame and started new. put a 24 h.p. honda on it made a tank and replaced everything on the whole thing for under $2,000. it was all worth it. never a problem with it and a hell of alot cheaper with more power. :blob2:
