Hi Paul, the single biggest and also cheapest performance gain you can get comes from a good muffler. Money well spent or you could search the archives here on how to do it yourself if you are handy.
I've also been wondering on the gain from a new muffler for my 346xp. I think it's a good idea just to keep the saw running cooler, which should be better for it.
Questions:
1. I already wear earplugs when running this saw. How much louder is it gonna get?
2. Does anybody have a 346xp with JUST a modded muffler? What are your opinions?
On a side note, I was at my local Husky dealer the other day to pick up some new files, and I was suprised to see he is no longer carrying the 346xp. He's replaced it with the 353. According to him he is trying to see if the cheaper 353 can fill the gap between the 350 and the 359. Apparently most people look at price as #1, not overall value.
As far as I am concerned, Walkers does the best job on mufflers that I have seen, although functional they are very astheticaly pleasing, but we can do this ourselves, as Russ has indicated.
Search the archives, there is a wealth of info there. Pipe placement and size are the important things. It is best to be conservative on pipe size than to open to much and lose required back pressure.
John
John, pipe placement and size have always been important,
regardless of what the better half says, or doesn't say.......
I really didn't say anything, did I? Dang, I must be on vacation,
don't know what to say.
