ILL, as in sick
Last season on some hot, humid days, I got my arms covered in walnut saw dust during a few big removals. I washed it off with the H.O.'s hose and 20 minutes later I had blisters all over my arms and they burned something awful. Have you ever heard of this happening before, and can it get worse? Ive been cutting for 10 years and this never happened to me before last year. With the way allergies mutate over time Im a little nervous.

Never had blisters come up but I do get red welts when I climb some trees. No biggie, Hell I climb in trees covered in poison ivy half the time. If you find your allergic to Walnuts just charge an extra hundred for hazard pay like I do with poison ivy.

That reminds me of somethin else. You ever hear that if you eat a poisen ivy bud the week that it pops, that you'll be immune to it for the rest of the year?

prentice,

Yup.

Prepare for rectal Bleeding, and possible death if ya do it though.

Dibs on your saws!!!:D

I tested positive for allergys to Walnut and reacted pretty hard with the Hives previously.
I generally just get an athsma trigger when cutting the stuff though.
Tightness in the chest/wheezing, and light headedness.
Benedryl will choke things down though, and if I don't forget to take the Zyrtec I generally don't react much.

If you're gettin' blisters, you are reacting HARD and need to see an allergist and get tested/ treated, and a script for an Epi-Pen.

Anaphalaxis is very possible from exposures that result in such reactions, and that is NOT fun!

Trust me on this as I found out the hard way, and woke up with the nurse holding the paddles.

In the meantime, keep some benedryl handy. The capsules are fastest if you crunch 'em and dump the powder on the tongue.
Tastes like crap, but slows the reaction down to buy time getting to the ER. Just remember how many ya crunched and dosage, cuz they will hit you with more Benedryl in the ER and ask about it before they do.

Stay safe!

LMAO!

Yes I have heard that. It's an old country wives tale I believe. My grandpa used to say something like that. I've never been brave enough to try it.

my only allergy is chin nuts

How did you find out you're allergic?

I've had the blisters from wet walnut sawdust, it's worst when it's hot and humid. I'd never heard of the possibility of it worsening into anaphalactic shock tho.....scary. I believe it's caused by the juglone in the walnut wood.
