I need a Dana 44 or Dana 60 front axle for a single wheel chevy (pumkin on the passenger side). I perfer 3.73's but 4.10 will work, as I can regear the rearend, exspecially if it is a Dana 60.

I need a complete axle, with steering arm (tie rod would be nice, but not required. It must be ok internally, but the brakes can be shot.

I aint lookin to break the bank tho.

Anybody can help? I will pay shipping. Semi open minded.

Carl,

aren`t there any auto salvage or recycling places near you? The freight on an axle will be high.

Both those model Danas should be easy to find in the ratio you want. Most recyclers that I know off can check statewide or further to find what you need.

Oh there are several junkyards. No 4wd in them tho. Shipping wont be too bad, under 300 dollars from most places for a set of axles.

Those nationwide searchs are good, but the want too much for them. Last time I checked, they wanted 1100 for a 10 bolt used. You can get a new (rebuilt) for about the same, if not less. Not to mention, 14 bolts are cheaper, and many times stronger, but are an 8 lug.

I dont know what you are doing wiht it, but the 10 bolt and its clone the dana 44 are not the best from axles. A dana 60 and a 14 bolt full floater rear are a good combo. Some 60 have low spline count shafts which arent the best though.

I consider the 44 slightly stronger than a 10 bolt. Plus the 44 has lots more availble build up parts than the 10 bolt.

I have a 14 bolt in the rear now, and a 10 in the front. Problem is is that the 10 is a 6 lug. I deep sixed the rear 10.

The Dana 60 would be awsome, but I would settle or the 44. Got either for sell?:) Know someone who does?

The carrier departed after it had handled 2 shafts breaking. Lasted well considering.

Cral, a ten bolt and a 44 use many parts that actually will interchange. Its beyond me that the 44 has a good reputtaion the ten bolt has a poor one when in reality they are the same axle with slightly different housings.
Check the slavage yard like Jokers mentioned. Axles for these trucks are a dime a dozen and there are military surplus one available.

I will say that the 10 bolt is pretty stout... I never had a problem with mine, or the auto hubs... and I gave it hell in the mud.

You seem 4x4 knowledgeable, how/ whats your story with that?

Speaking of interchangeable parts... I have the 10 bolt still in the truck, I also have the hubs for a Dana 44 (whole axle, disassmbled). Would the hubs from the 44 fit the 10? If so that would be awsome, but I would have to change the gearset in the 10 to match the 14.

Can you believe that my truck came stock with 2.73 gears... 2.73!!

Helped build a few boggers iduring college. Mostly bigblock chevs with 1 ton running gear and 44"s.

Would the hubs from the 44 fit the 10?
I would almsot bet money that they would.

BTW if you find aclosed knuckle 60 dont buy it. they are a pain in the ass.

Do you get any 4x4 mags? I get Petersons 4 Wheel, and Four Wheeler, for the last 3-4 years.

I know a goodly little bit of 4x4, and most of chevy.

Agreed, pass up anthing that has closed knuckles. The are weak, and a pain.

My truck is an 84' SWB. It has a 335 (305 punched out, dont ask, dad payed for it, shoulda just told him to get a 350, same cost $2100) It is currently on 31" because it was my daily driver, and that was the biggest they had in stock when I had a blowout, and dad offered to buy new tires.

I blew the axle last may, at school, moving the stage for showchoir (lotta weight on the bed) and had to cross some curbs. Rearend explodes, limp home in 4hi. Got a 14 and 44 set, rebuilt the 14, and set it under the truck.

I went to go get the tires swapped onto new wheels (6-8 lug). On the trip back the trans went out, had to limp home in 1st, 2nd is gone.

My plan is to get a 44, or 60, if I can find one. Add some 35" mud terrains, and an air suspension (with at least 14" of travel, but probably more)

I am gonna have to check the 44 10 hub interchangability.

Sure enough the 44 hubs fit the 10 bolt. You have to swap the caliper brackets, and get a different grease seal. Other than that it is a direct fit. I had everything cept the seals. You also gotta have hubs, as the 3/4 ton are external.
