Just purchased a Stilh 441 and want it to run cooler and stronger. Is htere a olded larger opening muffler that will fit. Or do I need to MOD the muffler my self and if so has anyone pictures. I would rather but a new muffler then hack the one up on the 441.

Thanks Rich.

There is no other muffler that will fit. So you'll need to do some work on your existing muffler or buy another new one to work on.

Do be aware that these new stratofied charge engines need to have their mufflers modified more cautiously than a conventional two-stroke motor. So don't overdo it.

Just as CU said, the 441 isnt as restricted as a non-stratofied motor. It could be argued that opening up the muffler has neglible gains. You can also go to far real quick.

Here is whats been done to mine...

But mine has been woods ported. The existing hole has been enlarged as well.

I am new to this as far as chain saws go. I did not know their was a difference in the engines? That is wht the 440 is a hair off in HP form the 441 mag?

COrrect. The 440 is a conventional Chainsaw engine.

The 441 is a stratofied engine. Essentially the 441 gets a shot of fresh air to scavenge the exhaust gases from the crankcase before firing.

Here ya go............

I just opened up the original outlet and removed the screen track.

I cut a new screen to fit and used the original screen mounting hole.

Becareful to go too far as this is a strato motor. Also make sure you deburr and thoroughly clean the muffler.

Mine runs real good!!!

One Big question. With this engine being a new or newer design is it built to last or am I better off buying a 440 or other Mag?

Thanks Rich

In all honesty...............IMO it will last as long as any other Stihl saw.............a lot depends on how well it is maintained!!!

I am very picky about my equipment. I stabilize all fuel and drain if not going to be used after 3 weeks. I clean my equipment after each use.

I have all shindiawa equipment will using their oil at a 50/1 mix be ok?

Any quality oil for air cooled engines will work fine. You should take a look at a Syn oil though, no smoke and burn allot cleaner in the engine.

Are you talking about a synthetic oil and which brand.

Yes, synthetic oil. Everyone seems to like Mobil MX2T. Ive used it, seems to run well. I use the Stihl Ultra oil, only because having the little bottles suits me better. those are the only two I have experience with.

The Mobil is a bit cheaper if you dont mind measuring out the oil.

Need to wait till the rings seat before runn syn oil. I was runnig Royal Purple racing full syn in all my vehicles.

Would rather stick with Stihl syn oil. Keep the receipts and if an issue happens while under warr, less problems. At least what I have found while in the auto amd marine industry.

Stihl says you do not need to use a different oil for "break-in". I have two saws and a blower run on Stihl synthetic since new and all "broke-in": just fine..

Excelent great to know. I pick up the saw today. I have 12 bottles of the shindaiwa oil may just put that on the side and run the Sthil ultra in all my toys, Blower, trimmer, string trimmer and now the BAD boy 441.

Thanks Rich

You should have kept it that way  Seriously though, I am sure you will like the 441, it seems a lot of people do! It felt fat to me.
