Looking for some advise. My 036 is five years old. It has a good life air filter clean sharp chain. But after a month off it came out weak ran five tanks new gas still not what it used to be . I run an 18" bar and when I dog in the chain just stops going to check the comp. tomorrow any thoughts . Oh it starts fine ideals great it just does not have the power:(

Compression, then check the fuel filter and inlet screen in the carb. Don't even have to take the carb off - just the screw on top.

Check your muffler screen....if you had low compression your idle would be difficult to impossible to set and remain stable.

Check the carb as well and a new fuel filter is probably needed as lake said

That's a great saw; have had several of them. If the above suggestions do not pay off, then adjust the "H" jet at WOT until there is only a slight 4 cycle sound; then put that saw in the cut and see if it doesn't smooth out and cut nicely.

If its still not right, then take the carb out and clean it thoroughly (I wash mine in kerosene), blow it out with an air hose, etc.

If its still not right, then I'd put in a carb repair kit, they are not that expensive. ; and, after five years; it surely needs one. I put a new kit in about every two years just to maintain peak performance.

well now that I think I about it. It was probley right around 2000 so it is 7 years. WOW but I am sure it is a 036. There is a small shop that I go to he has great prices but only on saws he has at the shop. Last time I was there he had a 036 pro. The saw was still new I want to say the stihl msrp sticker on it was $500 tried to talk my buddy in to it. I might stop out there for the pickup line. Ohh I can see this is going to be a $510 part well thats what I will tell the wife. Honey I had to pay 500 for this part but the guy through the saw in to:hmm3grin2orange:
