way to play safe with the extra ropes and wedges on something like that. Not to keep it up but what? As long as the tree gets down safe is all that matters?
Just spanking in that blue flannel too. Shame, don't look like to much firewood, but a little more.
I only bring back primo stuff to my yard for spliiting. Don't really like to work the maple into firewood.
What classifies primo for me is really how it splits and that would be refered to as EASY. I like the oak, ash and stuff like that but I love locust. Its like kindling ( the fraying bark) and firewood in one. I sell the maple to the lesbians if I have any, maple firewood that is.

Silver Maple is also known as Soft Maple I think so not the best maple to burn. Do you guys have any Hard Maple (Sugar Maple) in your part of the world? It is plentiful around here in areas and is a great firewood and very nice wood to cut.:chainsaw:

You are right, it isn't the best Maple but it still has it's place. I have a lot of Hard Maple firewood, it is my personal favorite. It doesn't keep long if down in the woods, but burns excellent even with minimal dry time.

The back pile there is mostly Hard Maple, all the saw logs are.

:agree2:

Hard Maple is one of my favorite once seasoned, and yes if you leave it in the bush, bucked, it will suck up water go bad fairly quick. Just split some a couple weeks back that I cut up months ago in the spring (couldn't get to it until then), which was more green than dead when felled and bucked. Even though it hadn't rained in about a week some of the blocks had water squeezing out when splitting, and some had started to lose some of its BTU's. But a Beech tree that we cut at the same time that was a little more dead then green at the time of felling and bucking, cured better where it sat and seemed a lot drier overall. I had thought the beech would go bad faster than the maple but not in this case.

Ever notice how dead the PHC part of this site is?? lol. They should give you
some demerits and force you in there for awhile nails, after that freeclimbing
bit and the hatrack thread, lol. Just bustin. :)

Just a question... If you could drive the truck pretty close, why not just use it to put a bit of serious pull on the tree rather than those two fellas? Is using a truck like that cheating? Nice string of pics!

No, it's not cheating, trucks work well. I wanted a truck on it, the boss didn't, I didn't ask why. The rain and the golf course maybe.
