Hello,
I am new into milling lumber. My Dad loaned me his Alaskan saw mill and I am running it on a Jonsered 910. I have two of these 910s and the pine tree that I am trying to mill is too wide for the 20" bar I am using now. You can see the log behind the one I am milling in the photo. I think a 24" bar would do the job and I just want to buy the right one. What do you recommend? On another note is there a way to increase the bar oil output on my 910?
Thanks,
Rob

Welcome to AS. There are lots of people talking about the GB and Cannon bars, but I hear the Cannon bars are a bit expensive. And about the oil output on your saw, there should be an adjustment screw somewhere, but I'm not exactly sure where. Someone else on the site would know where it is. Lots of good people and good information on here. Best of luck :)

Nice pic.

Dunno if they are still available, but a while back Bailey's had some closeout Carlton bars priced very reasonable. I've got a couple and they are decent bars.

Might get shot for saying it, but I would probably go with an Oregon bar, priced right and you can turn the oiler up on your saw if that is an issue.
Welcome to AS, that IS a nice action shot.

Yep great action shot
- good PPE
- great height - 100 points for ergonomics.

Technically speaking what you show in that picture is not an Alaskan but a Small Log Mill. An Alaskan is held at both end of the bar by the mill.

Most 1970-80's saws suffer from lack of oil capacity when milling. The most reliable way to increase oil on an alaskan mill is to use an auxiliary oiler but this is not possible with a small log mill.

Thanks for the replys. I have learned all my tips from this site. There is a lot of information here.
I will more than likely get a bar from Baileys they seem to have good prices.
Thanks,
Rob
