I use the 4-D climbing harnesses like what Weaver offers. In fact, no wide back either. They'll loosen up your back for yah. LOL! They have the D on each side, plus 1 on each end of the butt strap.

One thing is for sure and that is I'm getting a wide-back. Now I'm thinking maybe I should consider the Floating D instead of my usual 4-D style.

Can you tell me the benefits or advantages of use a floating D over the standard 4-D where the climber suspends from the butt-strap D's?

Are they more comfortable?

Do they allow more movement?

How about DIS-advantages? Got any to share?

I should also mention, the harnesses are mainly used for take-downs... removals, carrying 1 maybe 2 ropes, small gas saw, micro-adjuster/grillion lanyard and possibly some caribiner/loop runners for the speed-line.

Thank you.

The floating bridge with leg straps is the way to go. Definitely more comfortable and allows more movement. I switched from a basic 4 D to a Butterfly 2 (floating bridge and leg straps not butt strap), I'll never go back. I should add that I don't do a lot of take downs.

It depends your climbing style. I know guys who love them, I'm one who in un impressed.

I'm on my third Buck'Master I like the sewn loop attachment points. Anything is better then the old style 4D narrow belts.
