does anyone know the biggest diameter and how long of a log you can split with one of the screw type log splitters? a post hole digger mount one kinda like the stickler if you have seen that kind, or the atom splitter. I was wondering what the maximum size log you have split is, what diameter, type of wood and how long.

Thanks

I have one that runs off the PTO of my tractor and splits horizontal to the ground.
I've split up to 30" rounds of white oak w/ it. Tractor being only 23hp I had to split it in small sections, split in the middle would stall the tractor.
I've tried up to 4' long chunks, doesn't work so well...all depends on the width of the "screw" at it's base. Longer the piece your splitting the more apt it is to be a pain by not fulling splitting it and having it catch and lodge on the "screw".
Hope this helps.
