Hi . New to this site, been in business 10 years gardening and some construction. I like the tree aspect. So far i've been getting up there with a ladder ,then monkeying higher. I pull my little tanaka saw up with a rope and use the same one to tie myself to the tree when i start to think "oh you poor little c### you really should have stayed at home with mother". After the last climb my legs were killing me the next day and i figured that it wasn't the climb -it was all the shaking they were doing up there!. So i want to rope climb. wife bought me a rock-climbing harness ,i've a good crash-lid from when i used to exercise horses and, got some carabiners and 8 rings from a guy down the road who didn't scratch the paint. I've been looking at the rock exotica astex prusik rope set to get going. Can't throw money as, my main client has just cut the hours so i'll have some practise time!. I would appreciate any suggestions on minimal kit and technique?. Thanks Malcolm

Well Malcolm. All those ropes and stuff are a waste of money and time.We only buy them as bling to impress our high dollar clients.
No needs for fancy cuts either.Just cut everything starting on the high side ,nice and slow, just let it peel.Another industry secret that we normally don't share with outsiders but you seem like you'll be one of us in no time at all so I may as well let you in on some of our secrets.
I noticed you did not ask about insurance. Some customers will want some kind of proof.Just type something up on your puter.

Watch the video below to see how we do it in the states.Good luck.

It is the "bling" rope stuff that i was asking about. Don't have a problem with the cuts. I don't need to climb every week but i do have to sometimes. I am insured - but try claiming... . I also need to get some rope skills for demolition work on old barns 'cos i'm wearing out my luck on that score..

Malcolminfrance. The post made by me earlier was total sarcasm in case you didn't notice.
I will be totally serious with you this time .I have been a little bit cranky lately and I took it out on you.But you will not get a quick ''How to be a tree man '' from me or any other member here.

The helmet will be your most effective tool right now,as you will need it as you observe an
experienced climber do his job as you learn from the ground. All the while learning that this type of work can kill you in a heartbeat.

There really is no other way around it .
