I asked a perfectly good question regarding spikes usage in Live trees, and to my surprise it was deleted. Anybody care to explain?

dunno about canadian, but us standards allow (too many) exceptions to this rule. At any rate, it has been talked to death, but still there should be no reason for deletion.
