I went a picked up a couple of saws this evening, A Homelite C-52 and a Homelite Super E-Z that were hiding less than a mile from my house. It turns out that the kid's dad is/was something of a saw collector and has about 30 of them (apparently including a 090G he won't sell). The kid indicated that he has a nice running 041 Farm Boss with a 18" B&C that he will sell "cheap". Not being a Stihl guy, what would one in average condition bring? What should I look for in the way of issues when I check it out?

041 farm boss

I just rebuilt a 041 super and put some new paint on it, sold it for 145.00 on ebay. If his saw is in good shape offer him 50.00 see what happens. Good luck

Complete running FB's 'round here go for $200 firm. Problem areas include: cracked/broken fuel/impluse hoses, cracked/broken air filter base plates, intake and exhaust gasket failures, and they are notorious for having stripped out bolt threads everywhere. I'd pay $150 for a runner that wasn't too beat up with a couple chains and a good bar. But I've never paid more than $75 for just a power-head. :)

I bought one at a yard sale last Sat. $20 starts first pull, its tired, used it as my beater saw to cut the hidden nails during my cabin tear down.
She got very hot and I had to sharpen the chain 10 times.
Probably a parts candidate now!!!
Got two off CL for $100, one is ok the other mint.

Sounds cheap, especially for a super. I saw 1 at a farm auction go almost 2 times that.
Not long ago 041 AV's looking decent and working were $200 ish, non AV's about 20% less going by what I was seeing on ebay. It does seem that people are not buying near as readly as they were a year ago though.

I have seen them go for as high as 300 or as low as 80 dollars.
I bought a decent 041av that ran somewhat but had a few cracked parts.
Luckily I bought another that stated it would run but it didnt so it was used for parts.
I am thinking about rebuilding it with a super cylinder.
