In the spirit of Simonizer, thought I'd ask an oil related question. What is "tack," and is it necessary for bar oil? Can regular used engine oil be used as bar oil if tack is added?

Tack is the thingies you put in someone's shoes when you want to convey the message that you don't like them.

tack in oil terms=stickiness, kinda important in bar oil..if u want to run motor oil ive learned a 'lil trick, add lucas motor oil treatment, adds some "tack" to it

Why would you want to add tack to your bar oil? Then the beers won't slide. Personally, I don't really like bar oil cuz it makes the beers to slippery and I don't want to drop one. I use Pledge with lemon scent.

im not talking about the lucas motor oil, im talking about the engine oil additive, just add it to regular motor oil and use it as your bar oil, ive used it when i was in a pinch for some reason

You mean the stuff they have on display in parts stores that has the 4 plastic gears with a hand crank and you can compare treated to non treated oil?

All right, tell me this. Will tack help make up for the cylinder being bored a little out of round? Everyone knows that cylinders aren't perfectly round. The tack should keep the chain from spinning at too fast a rate, being sticky, and therefore it will keep the chainsaw from vibrating too much since it has an oblong cylinder. :)

where does an oblong cylinder, spinning chain, and chainsaw vibration have anything to do with an oil being sticky???

Yep! Take the sparkplug out and fill it full of Amsoil. Replace sparkplug. It won't vibrate at all. It'll be the smoothest saw you ever held in your hands.

Would that be Amsoil 100-1, chowdowner, or will Dominatrix, errrrrrrrr... Dominator, fill the bill....errr, chamber?

Dang this Henry's Blonde Logger,,errr, Lager is goooooooooooood.....but I'd prefer just the....

Well, I profess to be an engineer, so you're obviously not in the know. Sticky oil acts as a speed damper--like a shock. Ever compress a shock in your hands? It's the viscous, or tacky, oil that makes the shock compress at a constant coefficient of speed--average speed is equal to the travel moment of the shock arm divided by the time in seconds of travel through this moment, or v=d/s. And that's why your friggin cylinders are oblong!!

i understand the shock concept, already knew that, but still not getting how tacky oil=oblong cylinders, but i don't have to, ill take your word for it

i hope you are just messing with everybody about his cuz it sounds like bs to me

No but tack will definately help your hand grips stay warmer. While your putting in additives don't forget the Stay Sharp. Once ounce will treat about 100 gallons and make your chains like razors!

You bored tonight Space?
