I've got an antique pair similar to that. All I can figure is they are for climbing the inside of hollowed out trees! :msp_mellow:

My first pair of spikes was similar. Uncomfortable is not even close when you want to describe them...

Cheap but basically crap....

I made a set similar to the ones in Guran's post, using steel from a spring tooth harrow, but I made them with long flat bottomed round topped spurs. I tried them out with some old pads and they worked pretty good. Rain has had me stuck inside for a couple of days so I have been working on proper leather for them. I have a big take down for next week that will require several hours on spikes, that should give me plenty of time to see if I like them.

I spent over 4 hours on them today. Very comfortable, no rubbing on the legs even with plain leather straps and pads that stretched a little and got slightly loose for a while. Going to replace the straps with nylon soon.
