i was just wondering what everyone prefered and why, i like the steel core flipline with a macro-grab adjuster, i hate how my knot on my buckstrap ends up up the other side of the tree..

I use the same thing. Used to use a double end three strand flipline with a prusik, but when I went to a split tail I found I didn't need the double end anymore. I've never tried a buckstrap, can't imagine I'd like it much.

One wire and one non-wire. The wire is my main one, the other I use to get by limbs and help me move around quicker.

actually just moved away from the wirecore myself after 5 years of use. i do miss the stiffness of it but i am really liking the rope flip. especially the set up i am running on it. distel knot on HRCIII that is on a captive eye swivel biner.

sweet.

Definately sweet!!

XTC Fire 15' with an Icetail distel and the swivel captive eye biner for me. It is awesome to be able to adjust length with your weight on it and it takes up slack a lot easier than the wire core with a gibbs style ascender that I was using.

I also got a 20' ready to slip into the rig for bigger stuff.

Ghillie or oldirty are you using a mini-pulley with your setup? I have been just using a prussic connected to my saddle with a steel oval screwlink about 12' of flipline, and a captive eye biner for clipping on. I have been using the distel for climbing a little bit so far and really like it. What/who got you into the idea of using it for your flipline?

No pulley, lanyard runs through the captive eye, distel is tied to the eye and acts as the adjuster. I am going to put another captive eye 'biner on the terminal end.... or mabe a swivel rope snap.

Od showed me the way from Tom Dunlap's idea.

I can try to take a picture tomorrow while it's raining....again!

So it should be called the DFA?
Dunlap
Flipline
Adjuster

What would be a good swivel eyebiner to put on the end of the flipline? I have always liked a locking steel rope snap to beat up/fling around the tree trunk.

thats up to him i'd say.

ISC makes the captive eye swivelbiner as does climb right. i like the weight of the steel snap for the terminal end too. that and the easy 1 hand operation aspect.

Here is a pic of the rig that OD was talking about.

The lanyard in the picture is 15 feet, I have another that is 20 feet if I need it that I can slip into the rig to replace this one.

The black cordage is 4 wrap prusik'd and I use it to manage the tail by clipping it onto my harness around back on my left side. You have to watch/tend those prusiks. I was doing a short travers using the lanyard as a second DdRT line and the cordage was long enough to get into the captive eye and lock the whole rig up tight. I was stuck mid-air (by my own fault) and had to finish the traverse with brute force.

BTW, I like these snaps better than the ones with the stamped steel locking mechanisms. It may have been just the one that I tried out, but the stamped steel lock was junk and jambed up with debris very easily.

BTW #2, I am going to have to try the ISC captive/swivel 'biner. This one will not fit through the holes in my "paw" style rope bridge anchors. It has a flare right after the locking pin area. Other than that, this one works great, I just like to have the option to take my lanyard off the D rings on my hips and put it on my bridge anchors.

The company i worked for s a kid fresh out of college use to make and sell his own lanyards, chainsaw lanyards and steel flip lines. He gave me a set to bring up and show to the college i went to. I still have them to this day. the old prusik type.

Any pictures?

I spliced a rope snap on some three strand and adjust it with a piece of eye to eye tenex and a distel. It ends tied with a scafold knot on a screw link wrench tightened to my side D.
