My new 395XP came in and when I went to throw the box out I discovered a bag containing this black contraption, a couple of wrenches and some grease. I figure it's an oiler for the bar tip, etc. but I'm not sure. It's hard plastic so you can't squeeze it to use it. The tip is spring loaded, but barely moves and will pop out way too easy. The book doesn't mention anything about it. What the heck is it?

Sorry, but that is just hilarious....

Its a grease "gun" , just load it with grease and put the cap back in it... When you press the tip of that thing into grease hole etc... it pumps out grease... just try and see...

Thats what I was thinking, but it sure is a poor design for a grease gun! The end wants pop off by itself. How the heck is it going to hold grease in it too? I'm used to better grease guns, this thing is some piece of junk. :)

Put the grease in now the red plastic ring isn't wanting to stay on. I try pumping the tip (pushing it in), but it won't move even if I'm holding the red ring on????????????????

uhmmm... the tip should move easily.. maybe you assembled it wrong way-???

The tip just doesn't move and it seems like there is only one way to assemble it and it's the same way I took it apart. Just my luck a defective freebee :)

:jawdrop: To grease or not to grease???????:help:

I think it's pretty funny. I had a 394 and just got this 395. Opened up the box, threw the bar and chain on and set it off to the side. No big deal, just like my 394 except its new. But, ever since I found this little thing I've given it 5 times more attention than the saw! That must be why Husky put it in the box for consumers like me. I don't care who you are, but that's funny!

looking at the pics i think you have it assembled wrong.....this is only a piston with a ball bearing. Nothing should fall appart when pressing the tube unless there is a plastic mold piece that fell inside the piston assembly and is restricting the piston and spring action from pumping..

take the tip and try to pump on a hard surface and see if it moves. If it does not there it a restriction inside the tip assembly.
