Hello-

I attached pictures of two trees that fell in my driveway. I cut them up to remove them so people can get in and out. But, I was wondering what trees they are and if they were worth chopping up for firewood next fall? I live in the southeastern part of Connecticut, US.

Thanks,
Brad

You could use it as kindling to start your fire but I wouldn't load the stove with it.

Thanks again. One last question.... Can you tell me what tree the attached pics are? Im about to cut it down and was wondering if it is good for firewood in a wood burning stove.

Thanks

Norway (red) Pine. The rounds in the first picture are too rotten to mess with but the full tree in the second picture looks solid.

This is one of the best species of pine for heat, the btu rating is equal to black ash and above lower end hardwoods like silver maple.

And if anyone tells you that pine shouldn't be burned in a wood stove or fireplace because it will cause chimney fires, they are full of bunk.

Second set of pictures looks to be either Maple or Box Elder. Hard to tell from those pics. Good firewood.

Looks like scotch pine to me.Good kindling or camp fire wood.It will burn and it will give off heat but it burns fast.

the second set of pictures the tree is in the shade so its hard to tell but the last pic looks like either siberian elm or american elm. pull off a small piece of the bark. if it has alternating layers of creamy white and redish-brown, then its american elm.
