I tracked this tree down in the swamp along the Nottaway river near Courtland VA where my fathers family is from, they fished and hunted all over this area.
Me, my son, dad, and 3 cousins did a 3 hour canoe trip and an hour long hike to find it.

This is the biggest tree I've ever seen, was over 50' around at ground level, due to low water.

Was awesome! Heres's a story on it.

Cool stuff, slayer. Were you searching out these specific trees or just wandering around? How did you know about these trees existence and how did you find them? GPS?

Awesome! "What treeclimbers do for fun", I couldn't agree more. I never stop looking at trees no matter were I am. What have they seen in their life? What kind of tree is it? How old? How to climb it? What's the condition that it is growing in? I'm obsessed.

+1 if you find a cure let me know I go the same affliction

we downloaded some satellite photos, which were marked by the guy who found this 40 acre area of untouched swamp, (see attached article, he was with a logging outfit and found a bunch of huge trees.) and tracked em down. a GPS would have been faster, since the coordinates were posted, but we didn't bring a portable. wasn't hard to find, once I stepped off the logs into the muck and just started walking.:kilt:
was like walking back in time, too.

This site shows a lot of VA trees, I've seen several already and working my way thru the list.

That site is awesome! Is there a site like that for cool trees in Michigan? I go jeeping in Michigan a lot and it would be cool to try to find some!

He's a pic of me 4th of July in front of an old spruce. Some of those lower branches went up along the main trunk all the way to the top. Location is Central NY State.
