I've been busy with the adz the past couple weeks and will be spraying these timbers with Olympic Deck Cleaner today.

I've been using a small 2 gallon pump sprayer, but am going to get a backpack sprayer today. Lowe's has the Solo sprayer with the arm pump on it...like this one:

I don't imagine that too many of you are using these backpack sprayers, since when I asked about borates, most of you either kept quiet or were not sure what they were.

As a longshot I thought I would ask anyway, any of you using a backpack sprayer that you consider superior to the Solo?

I got all of these joist adzed over the past couple weeks, this is some tough work...I've got 6 pieces of 14' length 6x10 joists for my loft over my kitchen, 8 pieces of 12' length 6x10 joists for over my 2nd floor bedroom over master bedroom, and 2 pieces of 11' 6x10 beams for the porches.

This is what the adz work is looking like, it's definitely improving:

freehand,

How much do those run, I've seen some similar for about $300, but the backpack sprayer is about $80.

Do you think the added cost is worth having the power unit?

Why are you doing this?
Why am I spraying the timber? I had them too close together and some mold developed which did cause some blue stain, so I wanted to spray them to keep it at bay...

These are floor joists for a log home I'm building.

I will need to spray the house after it is built, I did spray the first portion of it a couple weeks ago and it cleaned it up nicely.

I was planning to use the sprayer for Tim-Bor also.

Mine was about $1000,but I needed it to spray lacquer as well.....any of the lower priced units will blow deck stain, they really shine when you have 15,000 feet and 30 gallons of stain to put down......Not really handy for small jobs as the cleanout procedure is kinda lengthy.....more so with the oil based stuff....

Yeah, I called my mentor today and he told me it's more handy to have the backpack sprayer as you can climb up on a log structure to spray the floor system if needed.

Right now $1k isn't in the budget for a sprayer, so went ahead and got the Solo 425 today at Lowe's with a few jugs of Olympic Deck Cleaner.

I lined these up for a bath today, but it got kinda windy, so I'm going back in the morning tomorrow to spray them and try out the new Solo 425 sprayer.

TT,

I caught you late. Woulda said "Jacto", but Solo backpacks ain't bad, and parts are easy to find and cheap.

Just keep it clean, and remember to always neutralize any residues before parking it. If you run an adjustable tip, remember to clean it out as well.

I worked with an adz once. It was enlightening, and made me appreciate the old Barns even more. I found no joy in it once the novelty wore off.

Stay safe!

dinger,

I can't find any joy in it myself, it is just back breaking brutal work. It doesn't seem to get any easier, although some of my muscles aren't as sore after a couple weeks of it.

I think I have about half the adz work done, if I'm lucky! ;)
