Somewhere in a tree
Maybe not the best pics but the tree is a storm damaged Hackberry, half of it broke over in the small back yard. No damage to the house but it is over the jungle gym, on the detached garage somewhat and into the deck. Everything is going to have to be lowered and I gave them a price for grinding the stump as well. The tree is in the neighborhood of 36" dbh and the two limbs that split over are around 24". It'd be nice to get a crane in there but no good access and lines are within 15' of the tree at the property line for the other side. Would have to get something big enough to pick it over the house. Just curious what some of you would bid this for and how you would do it???

"I can't see any pictures showing the base of the tree, or its siting relative to any nearby structures, so there's no way I can give you my bid."

(That's what I send prospective clients when they send pics that don't tell the whole story.)

Everything will have to be lowered. It is in the corner of a privacy fence. Maybe 35 feet in between structures to drop it in. The tree is 65-70' tall (what remains). Also, this is an insurance job.

Heck, its an insurance job, stick it to em. Make it $4800.

True that but it is a competitive bid. I saw one of my main competitors bidding the tree when I rolled up. I don't think he saw me as I swooped by like a phantom jet and hid out around the corner until he was done. :D

judging your pics and description it looks like a 4hr job for 5 men, spiderlift, GCRS, skidsteer with grapple, 12" chipper, 1 log truck and 1 chipper truck. no idea on the stump part. I probably be at $2800 with stump included. leave one man there grinding then put the rest of the crew on another job to finish out the day. it would be a 4k+ day for us in 8-10hrs

I might consider $2800 if it was a normal run of the mill job but I consider this emergency service which I usually charge a little higher for. Not saying I did bid it higher mind you, just saying that would be normal circumstances. No way this job is going to go in four hours. Will be lucky to do this one in 8. No way to get a lift to this tree.

Crane the monkey over the house. Or get the Grcs out and get fancy. looks like a solid day to me. But I can't see the whole setup.

you definitely need to charge higher for emergency. i agree. all i need is 38" of travel path and im to that tree. if you could do it in 8hrs by climbing I could get it done in 1/3 with the spider. and id also be hauling the logs out in 12ft lengths. an extra hour on the stump done by carlton 7015. 4hrs for the tree, full cleanup. but then again im not there.

Este es no problemo. Yo tengo todo para el arbol, y mas 'experto' personas trabajar. $500 todo. No hay insurence, y no soy 'bonded', y no tiene un 'green card.' Pero, no necessito, por que este es los Estados Unidos!

John, your input is really helping me out. I am bidding against someone with a crane and lift. I don't see where he can get a lift into it. I am planning on taking it down without a crane. I can access within 50' of the tree with a dump and chipper. I figured that he bid it for a full day at $4200 but it depends on how hungry he is. I plan on at least a day maybe two without a crane. I can prolly figure a day and a half with me and my guys but you know how that goes. It could go real smooth and go a little quicker or old Murphy could rear his ugly head and it could take two full days. Right now it comes down to what he and I bid because the insurance company is going to make the call.

Well I'll know within a few days and I'll let you guys know what I bid then. I bid about $200-$400 cheaper than I would normally bid; what I know this tree is worth. With this economy it is cut throat right now but I'll pick and choose my battles. I may have screwed myself but I tried to bid it tight. It's risky business and I'm not in it for my health! I'm still booked out til the end of the month. :D
