From my house to the shop is about 25 minutes.
When in chicago, I was about 20 miles away, 45 minutes in the morning and 1:15 after work.

I have a radius of about 30 miles, which depending on the load can take 1 hours sometimes up to 1:30. Most of my jobs are within15 miles, so it takes at the most 20 min to get there.

About 15 seconds to the shop/yard, and then anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour, depending on where the job is.

Never any more than 10 min. The normal is about 5 min. From there to the first job of the day however is a different story.

I have about a 50 mile radius of normal operations but most of my work is close-usually 10-15 minutes to get to a job.

It's about 5-10 mins to get to my lockup about 3-4 miles away. Getting back in the evening is 20-30 mins, with the "record" being about an hour. The rest depends where the job is..jobs further away on the right side of town can be quicker to get to. At the moment it's taking about 2 and a half hours travelling to do a round trip of about 30 miles, via my lock up. Knock about an hour off that this week, as the schools are on half term holiday.

We did get a bunch of Timmy's coffee sent here for Christmas.

"Work" for me is a three minute walk away, maybe five if I have to lug my flak vest and helmet along. :D

Hey Jumper,
Was it the great hours or the interesting people you get to meet that attracted you to your current line of work?
Good luck to you and your crew and be safe out there! (what y'all are doing makes tree work look safe and kind of relaxing.)

At my former employer, it took 55 minutes, one way! 45 miles of it was interstate. Then we moved, and it went down to 45 minutes, one way, no interstate. After I was laid off, I went to 10 minutes (or slightly less) at my current employer. But, I drop my daughter off at daycare in the mornings now, so I'm up to 30 minutes in the morning, and ~10 home in the evenings...

Kinda funny, when we moved, I was driving 45 minutes one way, my wife was driving 10 minutes to the school (she teaches art). I got laid off, got new job, she changed schools, now I'm driving 10 minutes and she's driving 30!:D Funny how things work out....

In Austin, it was about 5 seconds;)

I just refused a job due to the 50 minute drive it took me to get to the shop. Plus then I would get the work truck and crew, then drive back into town. Stewpid!!

The pay was low as well, the commute was the deciding factor.

Found a few good contract contacts.;)

Has anybody heard from Ken lately? KF Tree I believe he told me a while ago that his commute to work takes something like 2 hrs each way. However he is at least an hour north of me, and I am roughly 45 min from city limits in "normal" traffic... rush hour traffic is not something I would want to see every day. WAY too many loons on the road at that time.

10 mins too yard ,average 30 mins from yard too job ,when consulting, hours of motorway misery

commute

85 miles to the yard on staten island. then off to brooklyn with traffic average is about an hour to first job

driving

at the moment we are working far from home, on a couple of large sites so they are 2hours away, most of the squad stay in accomodation provided by the boss
other wise is 30 mins to the yard or into town to meet the boss at the site,
to save driving out to the yard, then back into town

Drive 20 minutes down from the house to town and the ranger station, then from 30 to 90 minutes out to wherever on the forest we might be climbing. Sometimes add from 10 to 60 or more minutes hiking in if we're not working near a road...I can only think of one job where the hike in was much longer than that. Always thank the sherpas!

I'm thinking of taking a job down the Mountain about 45min to an hour drive. To work for an arborist again would be great and the temp. difference is about 10 -15 deg. So you'd be working more days then around here during the winter. Sounds like most of you all do close to the same. Cool! Later,BB

One second to the office, which is right next to the kitchen.:p

20 minutes to my regular work areas. Jobs outside of that get one-way driving time charged. Some get both ways driving charged, depends on the client and the job.

Three minute drive or or 12 minute walk to the office. From there it could be up to a twenty five minute hike through the forest to the trees that need working on.
