In Wyoming, we have pine. That's it. Nobody knows any different and we manage to keep homes very warm. I have never burned a hardwood in my life.

Another myth is that pine creates creosote. That is a lie. I don't have creosote in my chimneys, I have ash. A quick brushing once a year and I am good to go.

Just make sure it's seasoned wood and you will be fine with whatever species you burn...

I can't give away pine.

I used to sell hardwood firewood. What I burn now is just keeping up with the blowdowns and standing dead. Mostly EAB killed ash, but also hard maple , cherry, beech, black birch, some oak.

Every 2-3 years the white pines have a bumper crop of pine cones and I'm "blessed" with those and truck loads of pine needles. The needles are mulch for my blueberries, and I save several contractor bags of the cones. They are the best kindling .

One of the big ones snapped off during a storm last winter.
