Just wonder at what point is too many hours for a chipper? I've seen a few priced between 5-9000.00 diesel chippers. All seem to be 1900 to 3000 hours. What should I look for on a high hour machine that sceams run the other way? Thanks

Anything sold by Harv's Sales in MI. :monkey:

Hah!

I wouldn't worry about machine hours so much as its ownership and maintenance history. I would try to buy directly from the owner/operator himself vs a reseller who likely bought the machine for dirt cheap and slapped a quick paint job on it for a higher resale value. Ahem...like somebody we all know from MI...

I would suggest spending a couple hundred $ to have a professional service shop or mechanic inspect it. If you're really serious about a particular machine, the inspection will either save you big $ by pointing out major repairs that are needed or will give you peace of mind in knowing that the machine is sound and ready for work. If you are unable to inspect the machine locally and considering buying it and having it shipped, just call ask the seller if you can hire an independent shop or mechanic to look at it. If he says 'no', walk away. If he agrees, you simply call a service center in his area and make a deal for a mechanic to do a site inspection and make sure he understands that YOU are his cllient, not the seller of the machine so he should be giving the inspection report info to you alone since you are paying for it. If the seller wants the report, he should split the cost or pay for the inspection himself.
