 (thinkin' some one got a good deal on a few and is by-passing Stihl's no-net policy, just a guess, also guessin' no dealer support or warrantee work, or may the new Chinese knockoffs (wrong: edit) are hitting the market, time for some serious research me thinks hmmm)

I am always suspect of "new" anything on Ebay. I will post them a question if its an item I am interested in. I simply ask them with no offense stated where they got it. Some people will post back an explaination, some will ignore the question. The ones who do not respond, I do not buy.

Good idea. I use Craigslist a lot and a few questions can save a lot of grief.

I didn't look up the ebay listings, but regarding attractive prices on ebay:

A relative in another state worked for an electronics and appliance store; when one of the high-end products he carried started showing up in Best-buy the store owner sold off everything in his 3 stores and warehouse and didn't reorder any of that particular brand. Some of it went to other dealers willing to buy it, but a couple of items were ebayed.

Of course, the major name jerked his dealership, but what did he care? The volume wasn't enough to hurt his chain or warrant a lawsuit.

I'm thinking this is a dealer (or proxy) for whom the relationship with Stihl has gone south. Stihl won't buy back the goods, so he's liquidating another way.
