Was just wondering what other Arbor people think of the 335. Heres my humble opinion: (opinion does not reflect the opinions of arborsite or its creators hehe) :)

I hate it... especially the cali edition. why?

The exhaust is poorly placed. it faces up for pete's sake. what gives. (new models like the xpt and the cali edition have baffles but still burns your hand in tight crotches)

Not really powerful enough (even the xpt version which is a little better)

Cold blooded. reguires choke start if you dont use it every 30 seconds.

I work for a public entity and this is the saw we are contracted to use for some time. In the mean time I will continue to dig into the back of the saw box for the 15 year old stihl 020's.

thanx

i haven't touched one in about 2 years......but i went through about 5 of them in 2 years. they were just too finicky.
i did like them when they ran though.

i pretty much swear by the old 020 or the ms200 now.

Attached is shot of my Walkerized 335, showing the muffler mod, which directs the exhaust downward.

After 1.5 yrs, the saw is getting a little finicky. Now it sometimes needs a little choking after being shut off for a minute or so. Other than that, it has been a consistent stock 020 beater (by 10-20%) since I got it modded. Before that it wouldn't keep up with one of my first generation 335's, that cut great but was a pain to start hot or cold. That old one runs better now, with a new piston, and carb from another old 335.

I'm hoping the new 338 will be better yet. I'll soon get one, maybe directly from Dozer Dan after he mods it for me.

I just don't like the switch being where it is, and the track record so far means I won't be buying one anytime soon. The Echo cs-3400 I bought a few years ago is cheaply made, but it starts, runs, and cuts when I want it to, and at under $200, if it takes a crapper 60 feet out of a tree, who cares?

Hallaluja Brother!!.. Ive always loved the 3400. Even when the mufflercover broke and the spark plug cover was worn down and was so dubbed the "shocky burny saw", I still liked it cuz it always started on the 1st or 2nd pull. (despite the occasional jolt or scorching) ;)

Hey, you flyin' squirrel!!!

As I recall, I tested my 3400 after I opened the muffler, and it was still slower than my old 335, the one that was always a good runner.

Also, a note to my last post...all that was wrong with my modded 335 was a plugged carb...from a bad gas line. It is as good as new now.

I highly recommend the 335, especially after a muffler job, and maybe a full mod. Most of the second gen. saws are reliable stock,if not super powerful, according to the few friends that have them.

A shot from the Tree House project, where Huskys were personna non grata

And I think the bark on the record Giant sequoias can be over 2 feet thick!!!!

Here's the Extractor hisself....OX 80-100 feet up, and she's still about 9 feet through.

Thats quite a tree!! RB, how tall is it ?? What was the DBH on that tree?

Hey Rog, you got any of me in the treehouse? Charley sent me one by the sinage, but I got nothing sbove 100 ft yet.

I was always working on the dark side of the tree
