my idea is to take a 10.3 lb, 295 poulan pro ,which handles a 20 inch bar
alrite . put a 16 bar with full chisel. ive owned a poulan pro and it was a good saw.rite now ive got fair, front floor board saws. but they are 34 cc saws. im hoping i mite get a pretty strong ,lite saw,to use as my first, go to saw.the 295 is 46 cc.
any opinions good or bad ,welcome. i know its not a husk 346xp ,
but ill be pinching pennies, for a while until the land an house are paid off,so got to do what i can.after that ,god willing ,ill have some play money.:)

Hey Tony, if you like the saw and you can make a living with it, go for it. It don't matter what the rest of these yahoos think. ;)

thanks for the support, fellas. i think most on here know im just fishing for ideas. being popular, politically or socially correct , just aint a thing i put much into.
all them things get in the way of the truth an the strait up facts, too much for me.
i was just fishing for input from any o these guys with thots on it +or_ . thanks again.
ps im thinking this mite be a shonuff bad little lite saw.. i report the results.

I have the 295 pro and am thinking about the smaller bar as well, it's a little slow for the 20" but a 16" might be fun! Got it as a refurb off Ebay, oh and refurb = used. 2nd saw was better.

I'd have to say it will do the job just fine. Look like decent saws to me much better looking than them green ones yuck. Poulan pros are supposed to have chrome cylinder the green ones have a cheap chrome piston instead. So it should be good, maybe modify your muffler a bit and let it breath. Ever had the 330? Looks like a yellow husky, thought about getting one to save wear and tear on my old Pioneers.

Tony, Dropping down in bar length does reduce chain weight and friction so it does make some performance difference. Personally I hate all the extra stooping/bending so I put 20-24" bars on all my ground saws. I don't have any sub 50cc saws other than my climbing saws anymore but the 51cc Jonsey 590 rips with 20" .375 and skiptooth.(That saw had .325 and a 16" bar but I don't much care for .325 so I switched it to match everthing else.) The Poulan Pro 330 (57cc) pulls fullcomp .375 on its 22"bar like there is no tomorrow! (You can bog it down a little in buried bar cuts but it hardly slows in 14" and under stuff.) Poulan gets a lot of guff from some but their Pro saws are awfully hard to beat for the price.-I'm not saying that Stihl and Husky aren't better saws but my Poulans start easy, run hard and last for years!

yep ,this is one o the recond. saws.
but i know most o these saws were brought back by people who didnt
know how to operate a saw.im hoping i dont get one that was used to clear the back forty and then took back.:D
stumper i agree with u about the poulan pros. even the anti vibe, looks the same as husq. i think husq must mount the springs in a rubber base somehow,
cause they definitly have a better anti vibe, than the pp.
ive got a 036, w 20bar, that is my, get dn to buisness saw, backed by the028.
but i keep a lite short barred saw in the front floor board of the truck to pull out for quick jobs.if this plan comes togather ,im hoping to have something
that will really power a good sharp chisel chain 16 inch thru most any thing.
plus, like i said, the ideas, been in my head for a while now.an u know how that goes. sooner or later u gonna get that fix.
:D :)

go for the Poulan with the smaller blade

Did the same thing you are doing with those "wild Things"
Got them for $60 warranty returned / refurbished with case wrench oil blade and two chains. Plus a warranty!

Swapped out to a solid pro 14 inch bar chisel chain from 20 inch and runs great for a $60 saw

I thing the bar and chain modification makes a world of difference

Dude! Excellent idea i did it. Bought the saw with a 20" bar on it but boarderline on power with 46cc in hard woods. So i put a 16" with .325 chisel. Excellent cheap saw except the automatic oiler has its limits and would occasionally not oil enough. Possible solution is to modify or increase the output of the oil pump. Solution, Purchased a MS340 Stihl, more power, professional features and a ajustable oiler. Also comes with a excellent Stihl 18" bar amd chain that wears very well. Thanks Dieseldog!

a follow up. the saw arrived ,pretty much as expected.
saw looks great . the bar was obviously run by the original buyer ,without oil. pinched also.bent.no paint left on bar,the refurbisher thot he could fix it. not.
also had razor edges on chain ,but the angles were awful.
i tried straitening out but cant get anything positive to happen yet.
put a stihl bar an chain, on that dont line up rite but wanted to see what it would do with it. much better . might be alrite once i get the
correct bar on it . 16 inch
now to get a standard tensioner off an old saw somewhere.
shouldnt be too hard to find in the bone yd.
conclusion . even refurbished ,no excuse for selling a bar an chain like this one.yall have a good day.
i dont like to put bad reprts out,but im just calling it like i see it.

yep didnt find a tensioner, but i did find a deal on a husq bar w old type tensioner set up.
so took the tensioner off a craftsman i got.
now if any body got some good, new or whatever 325 .50 gauge 16 inch 66 driver full chisel give me a price.
and i got good stuff to trade u for it also.
as i expected the 16 inch bar an chain made all the difference. its a cuttin machine like that.thats with old used up chain . like i say now ill have to get to new full chisel chain and the plan will have come togather. ill check ebay tonite . later on now. tm

I have to agree that the Poulan Pro's arent bad. You can pick up a 295 for under $200 and the saw will run and run. I like mine and have an identical craftsman that runs good too. Both cut well. I had two anniversary edition poulan pro 315's and both cut awesome especially for the weight and both had an excellent vibration system though the changing of the air filter and spark plugs was quite a pain in the rear. I also had to replace the side plate (with bar tensioner) because the plastic cracked (used washers under nuts for a while to hold it together). I recently moved to Echo and Husky for my biggest work like stump cutting but use my 295 for almost everything else.. IMO you can't go wrong for the price and parts are easy to get.

Do they make a .375 sprocket for the PP295? If so anybody got a part#? or a place to get it
