I recently bought a Pro Mac 610 60cc. I will be using for bucking and felling. It currently has a 20" bar/semi chisel. Wondering if It would be better to have a full chisel chain on it. What is best chain for this ?

Also will be purchasing a 24" bar. Is a full chisel skip chain a good recommendation for a saw this size ? Or run a semi chisel ? I really dont want to bog the saw down with too many teeth. But would like a fast cutting chain. What is the best chain for bucking/felling with 24" bar ?

24 is asking a lot of that saw. It will pull it, and a lot of people do, but its taking what its got to do it. go with round file, it should be easier for you to maintain. as far as full or skip, could try em both and see what you think. hope this helps

Do you need a 24" bar or do you just want one for the occasional larger stuff?

If you are regularly cutting stuff that requires more than the 20" bar can handle then you probably need a bigger saw. A 20" bar is about ideal for a 60cc saw. I have used up to a 30" on one that size but you really have to be patient.

So to answer the question, get skip semi chisel for the long bar and full comp chain for the 20" bar. It will handle chisel chain on the short bar but since it's more difficult to sharpen and given your stated uses I would stick with the semi-chisel on that as well.

Hey thanks !

Thanks fearofpavement ! Its my first year getting into firewood. Need to supplement winter income...lol. So I will stick with whats on the saw (semi chisel) and we'll see what happens. Im impressed with semi chisel on my smaller saw so I guess I dont need to get carried away with a chisel chain. Besides, I rather not spend more time stopping to sharpen teeth. Thanks again ! -Dave
