I am looking to buy a new chainsaw and I am going to buy a bigger one, but I am torn between the Jonsered 2165, or the Jonsered 2171. They are $100 differece in price. Just wondering what everyone thinks on which one I should get.

I have the JRed 2171 because I also have a Husky 372XP, which I love, and the 2171 is virtually the identical twin (except slightly different angle of the handle) of the 372XP, and I got a good deal on the JRed during the January "trade-up sale".

I have never run a 2165, althought I did handled one when I bought the 2171 and it looked and felt like a really nice saw-so much so that I was momentarily tempted to change my mind on the 2171 and save a few dollars. There is no question that the 2165 is a pro quality saw and as a firewood saw where the slightly less favorable power/weight thing would be of little importance, saving the money may really make some sense. Can't believe that you wouldn't be happy with either one. Good luck with your choice.

Forgot to say, my brother and I are selling wood now so I will be cutting about 20-30 cord this year.

Then speed matters, and the 2171 is a deft tool in the hands, keep your chains sharp and you will have to work at being disappointed in this saw.

With sharp oregon chain, full chisel, 28" bar, this saw will cut oak at 14" in 8seconds. We timed it at Grandpatractors gtg, and recorded all the times.

Basically, you'll be happy.:greenchainsaw:

They will be very similar in cutting speed until you run a big bar in wood over 20". The 2165 is a very good firewood saw, and if every last second of speed is not important to you get the 2165, you will be happy with it.

Wrong. I have ran 372s and 2171s, of my own, and of others. For probably over 1000 hours now, at least. Recently I started working for a company that has 365s, we also have a 372. In comparison, the 365 is a dog.
Reminds me very much of a time past, when people said the 61 was the same as the 266XP. Just cause they look the same don't mean they are the same. The 372/2171 revs up faster and higher, and has more power. For $100 more, the answer is clear.

If they are open ported 365's, then they are dawgs. If they are 365 specials...it is a smaller bore 372 and Husky man is right. wood under 20" you would be hard pressed to tell the difference...meanin if someone blindfolded you then you wouldn't know. The open ported older 365's were pigs, though. The Specials have the same RPM (1500 more than the regular 365's) rev the same, and imo have a little more low end grunt than the 372/2171.

With that said, I ran a pair of 365's for about 7 years as firewood saws with 18" and 20" bars. i know have 2 365's, and 3 372's.

Stout combo, loved them to death, but Buy the 2171 if the price is only 100 bucks more, cause it will cost you 200+ more in parts to make a 2171 out of the 2165.

They really shine in 20-24" wood. If you are running a 20" bar on them, use an 8T rim sprocket and mod the muffler. You will be very excited with the way it cuts.

My 365 special aint a bad saw,but my 361 out cuts it.Go with the 2171.To be honest I am really dissapointed with that 365.Bought it brand new about 4 years ago.I think its slow ,heavy, and poorly balanced for a pro saw in the 60 cc class

I have used the 365s (365 specials) for a while now, and the 372. At work, sawing down trees. I don't know why the 365 is called special, it ain't. The 372 blows it away. Falling trees, cutting slash, limbing, bucking. More low end? how? It has less c.c. Maybe your 372 was made on monday or something.

The 2171 will do everything that the 2165 will do and then some. The day will come that you will want the bigger saw. If you value your time $100 will be good money spent. I have a 371XP with a 24" bar and thought it was the best thing in the world and still do but my 395XP will do things in seconds that the 371 would take minutes to do. Not a fair comparison I realize but I have never been disappointed with a bigger saw, saves time and my back. the 2171 with a 24" bar and skip chain would be a perfect combo.

Hey guys thanks for all the input. I went to order the 2171 and the guy said he couldn't get one for at least 3 weeks. Can't wait that long for a saw. So I got a Husky 372xp. Can't wait to use it.

You'll be very, very happy with the 372XP, as I said earlier in the thread, I really like the way mine performs. Good choice and good luck with your new saw.
