I joined this site a year or so ago and posted a few business questions at the time. I haven't been all that active on the site since, but I've been keeping up with posts and stuff and have gotten some info from them. I just got some pictures of a job we did today and figured I'd share them. They were two EWP, one dead, one alive (but with a nasty section about 2/3 of the way up), that the homeowner wanted removed.

The plan was, climb the live one, set my rope and hop into the dead one from there, blow the top out and then drop the spar. Unfortunately, the wind picked up and there was no way I was getting that top over. So, I put a tagline in it (ended up doing the same for both) and cut it at the bottom. It worked great.

Anyway, just felt like sharing. Enjoy.

the best thing about Canada just might be tim hortons. or with the utmost respect in my book, "timmy ho's". i love that place.

i know a couple people from freddtown. good peeps.

looks like you mighta been a little high on the back cut bud and abit shy with the holdn wood but other than that good stuff.

Yeah, I'll agree that I might have been a bit high, but the pics are a little deceptive as far as the holding wood goes. ;) I had to give it a second look once I uploaded the pics. Besides, it was cold and windy and 100 other excuses.

I don't drink coffee, so I can't comment on the Tim's thing. The customer bought us some, so my buddy drank two.

Who do you know in Fredericton?

nice job.

i don't blame you on that dead one.

when they are alive they are my favorite until it's time to get rid of the logs.

Little sidetrack here-don't they have Tim Horton's in Mass? They seem to be on every corner around here.

Mark, nice job.

if they were around here beowolf i wouldnt be drinkn dunks man. if you have timmy ho's in your neck of the woods man i am moving. you guys hiring?

will work for timmy ho's! lol

Lol-you know, we don't need any climbers right now but we are looking for a diesel mechanic and i know where there are two tim horton's within 10 miles of the shop and where three more are within 20 miles. Interested?

(I've got a groundie that's addicted to tim horton's-bet i've had to stop at every tim horton's in the tri-county area.)

Hey, have fun and be safe oldirty.

It's pretty rare that we're at a site that is further than 10 minutes from a tims. Most of the daytime staff know us by name at a few of them (I'm not proud to admit).

Monster white pines are a blast to climb, reminds me so much of home (muskoka=pinus strobus-central)

Thanks for the replies. You guys are talking about Tim's, my city has maybe 60,000 people in it and there are no less than 10 Tim Hortons and that's just doing a rough count in my head. You can't drive 10 minutes in any direction without seeing one.

Right now, I'm just hoping that our name spreads around and we get more work than just removals. As enjoyable as they are to do, I'd much rather drive by a tree I pruned, the following year, and admire my handiwork. That, instead of driving by an empty yard a year later and remember the tree I took down.

Thanks for sharing your photos Mark. Here they are resized for our dial up members.

 Oh, great now that I 'm back home on cable.

I am pretty familiar with NYS up and down on the eastern end. I never heard of this Tim-ho guy. How far west do I have to go, do ya think, to find a cup.

Nice take down, Mark!

I don't really know-just always assumed they were everywhere. I know Buffalo is loaded with them and new ones are popping up in Chautauqua County all the time. I know we stopped in one just east of Rochester. Any further east than that and I don't know. Their ham and swiss is pretty tasty.:)

Well I'll keep my eyes open for that ho boy. Thanks. I am a 'Cracker Barrel' fan. I found them out traveling south to Mexico. Now there is one on the Northway, their Pecan pancake special is real good.

Hope you don't mind us talking chow on you pine thread, Mark.

No problem guys, hijack away.

Strangely enough, when Tim's moved into the northern states (not exactly sure which ones), they also changed the production of their doughnuts and I'm not a fan of the new style. Something about par-baking them now or something. Wendy's bought the brand up and I suppose they're to blame.

And thanks again for the comments on the job/pics. I was talking to the client today and he was more than pleased. He's also got all of the wood cleaned up and disposed of.

The new doughnuts suck

I personelly like their chili. Im not a big fan of doughnuts but the new made in a factory and shipped out to the shops doughnuts suck. I have heard the odd non corperate timy's still bakes there own?
Tim's does make a good cup a joe. I have a friend who is convinced they put nicoteen in it to get you hooked. I don't have the heart to tell him caffine is addictive!

The stumps look pretty good, looks like you had a small bar which is all the more difficult to line things up with.

Yeah, 16" bar on a 272XP. Well, until the tensioner bolt fell out, then we switched to a 254XP (I was amazed at the loss of power after I switched saws) with a 16". They did the job though.

there are a few of their stores around here.

they seem to be popping up slowly.DD is on every corner.not bad.i like the green mountain coffee at my friends Mobil station the best.

i ate at Tim Hortons in michigan years ago when they first opened there.it sucked bigtime.maybe it was just that store or they have improved but i have not been back since.i'm almost over my canadian ban so i may try them someday.

olddirty,if you don't like tomatoes, your OK in my book.
