I agree...it was a neighbor who got tired of raking the leaves up.

From the pics, those were far from being "mature". Very young but well pruned and taken care of.

We had a case in town where one miserable old guy girdled a full block of street maples. Big, old ones. WSU forestry tried pencil grafts to save them but it was hopeless. The guy didn't like all the leaves in the fall.

Yes beautiful OLD maples, in that area any old tree is a rare one.
