I had a chance to run one today and what's all the whopla about them. What a little under-powered dog. My ported Echo 3400 can handle it no problem.

Marky,

Did you run it on the ground or up in a tree or out of a bucket?? Power isn't everything when your off the ground, balance is a big factor , plus using the controls for starting and turning off the saw, let's not forget about using the chain brake. These are all factors as to why the 020 or ms 200 is so popular, plus there is not as many Echo dealers around, at least in our area.

So does the Echo. At half the price.

I like the ergonomics of the Echo better. And if it gets wrecked, ya just chuck it and buy a new one.

On the plus for Stihl, they're repairable and WORTH repairing.

Husky? They make a climbing saw?

Mike, you really think even a modded Echo will match a stock 020?

Yeah, the Echo is cheaply made. Reliable motors, though.

Dan, I bought mine for $200 (the 3400)... but that was a long time ago. I think the same (sort of) model is like $250, now.
<=== Still going. Darnit.

I think an 020T is a peppy little saw,and well made also.I've never ran one in a tree, but have worked on a few,and tuned several .For a little 2.1 cu in saw,it has plenty of zip,it's not a felling saw .Of course anyone could get a bad impression on a poorly tuned saw.

In terms of weight, ounces in the tree are like pounds on the ground.

The 200T head weighs 7.7 lbs and puts out a reliable 2.2 hp. If the problem is that 2.2 hp is considered under-powered, then it is likely that the saw is not being used for its intended arboricultural purpose anyway.

And while I will agree that it is a matter of individual opinion, I do like the ergonomics of the 200T.

Which Smith, not me,I can tune a saw.I imagine most good folks that use them can, however those that just talk, maybe another subject. But what do I know. ;)

The 2 Echo climbing saws I bought lasted only about 6 months of heavy use. The 5 Stihl 020T and MS200Ts that I have last at least 5 times longer with more power. The Echos are good for the ground guys to limb up stuff and for the climbers who have a tendency to drop saws out of the tree. Much cheaper to replace and after a little use you will need to buy a new one anyway. If you need to mod an Echo to keep up with the Stihl, how much money did you save? For sure it won't last as long as a Stihl. To me, it is like saving a nickel here while losing a dollar somewhere else.

020t's

Marky mark hasn't run an 020t anymore than I've run a poulan wildthing. To give him credit though, he stirred up the pot and that was his only purpose after all. Good job Marky, the Joisey boy strikes again.
Take care,

200

Longevity and power are the answer. The guys that buy one never seem to go back.
If you ran one that had little power, it needs repair. You should be able to bury the whole bar and keep on going.
I know they are a bit pricey, but how much did it cost to mod the echo?

I have a 020T and love it! I don't do much climbing, but I use it to cut small stuff and limbing. I brother has a Echo 3400, and even though it is a nice saw, I would never trade my 020T.

I also have an 020T and spend a bit of time up in the trees...great saw for doing so. It's well over 10 years old and still runs great. I have been thinking about selling and getting a newer echo but now after reading what some of you have said...I think I might have changed my mind. Can anyone fill me in on that muffler mod for the 020T?

Well to be honest I ran 2 of them the other day. 14" bars with Stihl picco Micro. I can see where it is wrapped in a bullet proof case but the power was equal to my Echo running a 12" total bar. I have also run a wildthing also. :)
