The thread "Witch saw models should be brought back? got me thinking about the new saws Stihl MS361, MS441 etc.

Will any of these saws ever gain THE LEGENDARY STATUS that saws like the Stihl 028, 038 & Husky 262, 266 have???

I don't know, back in the 028 and 038 and such day their where
no "Home owner saws". So pros and home owners alike bought
the same saws..........now we have the home owner class of
saws. Still some home owners buying pro grade saws but I think
most don't. I would think more saws are sold to homers than pros.
But then again their are nuts like us that have 10 saws or more :greenchainsaw:

So only time will tell.

To answer the ORIGINAL post - Nope... the EPA will make sure they will have a much shorter product life than the old iron... Hard to be legendary with a 5 year model life (max) - and any brand...

People have said that same sort of things for years. There are always legends in every generation. Whether you recognize them or not is another question.

We'll probably look back at these modern marvels the same way we view the lead sleds of yesterday. Then again, the EPA may make sure that doesn't happen.

Okay, I'll vote for the 5100, 7900, 066/660, 372, 440, 441, 361, and a couple to be named later. BTW, not necessarily in that order either.

The legends

I think for the current Stihl line, the T200 and 361 are probably the future legends. Certainly the 440, and the later 360 might be up for nomination too. But they are now obsolete models.

As Lake says, saw models will be forced to be changed constantly and we will not have them around long. Ala' the 440. So I say buy 'em up now and hang on, 'cause the EPA is not gonna let up any time soon. Neither is the Euro standards that are forcing anti-vibration and other feature changes on the buzz saw market. :chainsaw:

I dunno about the 5100 yet. Dolmar is certainly coming out with a lot of saws and coming out with them fast now. Whole lineup of saws, opposed to just a few saws this time last year. As for Husky, I dunno 'bout them. I am a StihlHead. Maybe a Dolmar is in the works (401). :monkey:
