Yeah, it sure was windy today here in Old Town/Orono, ME.

Wind? What wind?

I was supposed to do a sugar maple removal today after cancelling on Saturday due to snow. Well after seeing the weather report, I called it off... gonna try for Friday, as they are calling for snow Tuesday, rain Wednesday, and I've got an auditor coming over on Thursday.

50 mph

Wow I wish we had that here so I would not have to clean up the 43" thats right 43" of snow we got this morning. :monkey:

had to shift things aound this morning and put a hold on a few jobs we had scheduled for today. just too critical to be in 60-80ft trees today. Both jobs were scheduled for aerial lifts. We aren't allowed to fly in winds over 30mph. 50mph winds with critical rigging involved, forget it!

My residential crews I paired up with the land clearing guys to spend a day on the ground and in the woods. Tomorrow the show goes on. They are calling for 14mph winds and snow.

I was actually out on the east coast this weekend doing some work on my vacation? I love how I cant seem to stop climbing trees even on my days off.

Anyway, what i thought were big catalpa... 5 foot diameter trunks, both male and female...

Maybe someone can answer this question for me out on the coast. Is there a tree that looks like a catalpa, seed pods, growth structure, but has BLUE flowers in the spring? I thought it might have been a princess tree? Not sure because I dont see them around here.

3/4 dead, losing large 12 in limbs in the last storm they had.

The winds were not too bad, but there was a power line within twenty feet, a building even closer and those suckers were not as stable as I thought when I started up to the top.

Long story short, I cut them down to the ground and had a few moments of high anxiety as some of the limbs came crashing down. I will think twice next time I go up in a tree like these. Although the high winds didnt effect much without the leaves up top. That's when it can be hairy.

Wow, we only got 4" of snow here, still got to use the snowblower though

Sounds like Paulonia, or empress tree. A weed like aelanthus.

Though the seeds are not been like as with catalpa.

we worked today,, boss got a call last nite 10:30 , tree on a house...80' white pine.... tree hit the house and rolled off either after hitting the house,, or fell off sometime over nite.. was laying on the ground.. smashed the corner of the house pretty good.. split the crew,, to go do another job... got diverted after i set the bucket up.. another tree on a roof... another white pine, 90' multi leader... L shaped house,, 40 ' on one side,, one end on the gound,,, the other thru the ridge boards,,, another 30' on the inside of the L across 5 gable dormers....counted 10 holes in the roof....long day...

We had those winds yesterday. I had setup a group of guys to do some volunteer work at our pool to get it ready to open in a few months. All of the work was canceled due to sustained winds of 20-30 mph and gusts over 50... except... a co-dom maple about 45 feet tall. I made the decision that, since the wind was blowing the direction we wanted to fall it, and we didn't need to climb at all, we would proceed. Everything went well, but we had a hard time keeping up with our equipment. Leaves were blowing and covering everything up. We had a safe day.

yup it was alittle windy today and a bit on the cold side for the morning start.

homeowner made the day making a dunkins run.

only way not to freeze on a day like this is to keep moving and put your hands in front of the exhaust pipe on the chipper every once in a while.

turned out to be a nice one though.

My house is surrounded by 90 foot range white pines.. had a couple limbs down from the work done a few yrs back I suppose. Removed trees that had built up support wood and gave the wind to trees that didnt. Sail effect mighta been too much, one lost 30 feet or so of a leader.

I got to use my saw though so I was happy about it.

Amazing how far the tops sway in a windstorm.

Yep I think it was a princess tree, same bark, seed pods, male pods, etc. Thanks for the second opinion.

Stay safe out there.

Paulownia 5 Ft. diameter? ! Those could have been some highly valuable logs if there was any clear trunk a few feet or longer!

It's been windy and snowing almost every day this week, plus single didgit mornings.

Everyone is out moving snow, so I'vee nothing to ddo but blow the driveway twice a day and play with the dog in knee deep snow (that is hip deep for many of you  well acctually i'm 25in from boot heel to knee)

Windy sunday-couple little storm jobs.

Cold monday-3 below at 6am but warmed up to 2 by the end of the day.

snowy tuesday-started coming down at 10am and still hasn't let up. The plows are having a hard time keeping up and that's saying something in wny.

Worked every day.

Is anyone planning on working tomorrow? I got a few storm jobs with trees on houses. Depending on how bad the rain is tomorrow we may get them off the house and clean up the following day it its too wet. Right now all the trees are coated tihick with ice. we get any wind tonight expect some more storm work.
